There are many different activities afoot for the coming months that we hope you will be able to join us for! The Improv Spaces Music Festival program is out! We will be filling the whole Troy Savings Bank Music Hall including the Main Stage and the newly renovated Music Hub space with six hours of music, workshops, art, vendors, and networking opportunities on Sept. 6th! Advance tickets are only $20.

The Finale with Improv Spaces Ensemble will include an original site-specific improvisation composed by ensemble members including Adam Tinkle on the historic Troy Savings Bank Music Hall organ and flute, Christian Cocco (electric guitar, bass, synthesizer), Jason Handron (string bass), Derick Noetzel (video art), Jeffery Schanzer (classical and electric guitars), Bernadette Speach (piano and toy piano), Charles Ver Straeten (voice as instrument) and Alex Chang (electric harp).
On-site vendors will include Paper Moon, Roust Records, and artist Matthew Klane who designed this year’s festival artwork. Also at the festival will be our generous sponsor Yesfolk tonics as well as Sunhee’s Farm & Kitchen. Festival t-shirts are on sale with tickets for a special bundled ticket for $35 and will feature Matthew’s artwork.

If you support improvisation and would like to be a vendor at the festival, volunteer, or are interested in supporting the festival and be listed on our website and program as a community supporter as an individual or business, please contact us at improvspaces@gmail.com. Your donations will be going toward artist fees and helping to make the festival the best experience it can be for everyone.

The festival will be collaborating with EMPAC and Topos Festival and Improv Spaces will be presenting two sets at the festival with Rock City Falls Trio with immersive visuals by Derick Noetzel and the duo Sun Dogs on Saturday at 2pm. We are excited to be able to give a taste of the festival prior to Sunday’s activities and to join forces for a week full of improvisation and a powerhouse music-filled labor day weekend in Upstate NY. And BONUS, if you purchase a ticket for the Improv Spaces Music Festival, you will also receive a special 30% discount for the Topos Festival.

This Sunday, August 9th we will be collaborating on and co-sponsoring Hudson Sounds at the Northville Waterfront Park at 4pm presented by SVAN and Duo Envol with support by Saratoga Arts, which will feature program of improvisation reflecting on the themes of nature. Alex is delighted to be working with improvisers Duo Envol Melanie Chirignon (flute) and Laura Melnicoff (cello) on a new project based on revisiting historic and creating contemporary narratives of the Hudson River, which will be featured on the program. We hope you can join us.

On Friday, August 14th at 8pm at the Clinton Market Collective in Albany, members of the Improv Spaces Ensemble including Christian Cocco, djdrummernk, Jeffrey Schanzer, Charles Ver Straeten will be joining apostrophebeats and video artist Derick Noetzel on a live score of 1980s classic film The Dark Crystal presented by Bee Side Cassettes and the Downtown Albany BID.
We look forward to seeing you soon at one of these exciting programs this summer into the start of our Fall Season.
