Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Improv Spaces Music Festival this year at the Round Lake Auditorium in June!
We are excited to share some snapshots of the debut of the Improv Spaces Ensemble at the festival below:
Thanks also to the Times Union, The Spot 518 and also WEXT radio for these wonderful pieces on the festival. Thanks also to their media sponsorship and to the sponsors of the festival including Saratoga Arts Community Regrant, Charles R. Wood Foundation and Stewart’s Shops that made the festival possible.
Photos of Human Rites Trio, MAYSUN and Ethan Cohn, and art installation by Swan Ferraro by Kylie Spinelli Photography
It was a thrill to hear the Human Rites Trio, Electronic Cinema, the duo MAYSUN and Ethan Cohn, and interact with the work of Swan Ferraro, who all traveled upstate to be with us. We also enjoyed highlighting the region’s talent including with the Improv Spaces Ensemble, Joseph Bruchac, Nicholas Kopp aka djdrummernk with Jon Fuller on the Round Lake pipe organ, Special Creek, and Shiloh Wilson‘s steel drum trio set. It’s wonderful to think of the festival as a place where musicians, artists, and the audience can express and exchange their ideas and sound, as well as meet and learn about new folks and potential collaborators.
It was exciting for us to present the premiere of “Sonic Explorations in Troy” with the Rock City Falls Trio and artist Manuel J. Perez III, which was developed through an artist-in-residence with the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and the support of an Art Connects grant through the Arts Center of the Capital Region, NEA, and New York State. We appreciated the chance to share this work that allowed us to be in dialogue with the community about our past, present, and building futures together. Like the festival, the work highlights the importance of personal connection and relationships.
We look forward to seeing you at upcoming performances and programs!
